PICTURES, 2009

The "Pictures" series is made up of five digital “drawings” taken from the logos of Hollywood film production companies. These images show what are considered to be classic landscapes (sea, mountain, clouds) from which all textual signs that might enable them to be attributed without any doubt to a particular company have been removed. These ideal and grandiose landscapes all represent a form of universality, a symbol of the perennial nature of the cinema and its produc- tion companies. As romantic tradition requires, these landscapes are supposed to convey or produce emotions and subjective experiences. Here, the sublime appears as a means of perception. Using the same tools, comput er-generated images, but presenting an image as a drawing, we thwart its very symbolism, reproducing a landscape that has been seen many times before but noticed only very little.
