DATATOWN, 2002

The series of nine photographs, as well as the video "datatown" tackle the issues linked to place recognition amidst the countless signage stimuli invading our everyday life. The road network, the advertising posters, designations for places, buildings, streets, etc. are so many indicators that society puts at our disposal for driving. Indeed, by isolating the graphic markers of an urban landscape, we pro- pose a new, reconstructed space. The black areas covering the non-signage parts give the illusion of an unlimited, virtual space. The amalgam of these urban texts and the black background resemble the contemporary computer environment. These images reflect a landscape generated by a society which only functions thanks to codified information.
